REAL-WORLD TEST! MOVA P50 Pro Ultra vs Narwal Freo X Ultra

When it comes to smart cleaning, we all want a vacuum and mop combo that actually works in a real home environment. So today, I’m comparing the MOVA P50 Pro Ultra with the Narwal Freo X Ultra based on my hands-on experience. Spoiler: One of these robots had fewer hiccups along the way!

Full Disclosure

MOVA is sponsoring this review, but they have no control over what I say about either model. I picked the Narwal Freo X Ultra as the competitor because I saw it at CES and was intrigued by its anti-tangle brush design. So, let’s dive in.

Base Station & Maintenance

Both the MOVA P50 Pro Ultra and the Narwal Freo X Ultra come with all-in-one base stations that handle clean water, dirty water, and detergent. They also automatically wash their mops when needed. While “maintenance-free” is a bit of an exaggeration (you still need to refill water and empty the dirty tank), both systems make upkeep minimal.

  • MOVA claims up to 75 days of base station dustbin emptying.
  • Narwal offers a choice between a disposable dust bag (lasting up to 7 weeks) or a reusable dustbin.
  • Water & Detergent: MOVA has a smaller detergent container (6.8 fl oz vs. Narwal’s 31 fl oz), meaning you might need refills sooner.
  • Sanitation: MOVA washes its mops at 167°F (75°C), while Narwal dries mop heads at 104°F (40°C) but doesn’t specify wash temperature.

Setup & Mapping

Setting up both robots was easy—snap on the brushes and mops, fill the water tank, add detergent, and you’re set.

  • MOVA: Mapped my entire first floor in one try, accurately identifying walls and most room separations. Only needed minor tweaks.
  • Narwal: Struggled under the kitchen breakfast table, possibly due to smaller wheels. It also didn’t detect internal walls and only split the floor into two sections. Manually splitting rooms in the app was frustrating and inconsistent.
  • Carpet Detection: Both detected carpets well, but MOVA allowed me to resize carpet zones for better accuracy.

Design & Key Features

  • Suction Power: Narwal – 8,200 Pa | MOVA – 19,000 Pa (a significant difference!)
  • Brush System:
    • Narwal has dual brushes, which is nice for debris collection.
    • MOVA has one extendable brush arm for reaching corners and recessed areas.
  • Anti-Tangle Tech: Narwal uses a “CleanChop” brush with a built-in blade to cut hair, effectively preventing tangles.
  • Mop Mechanism: Both robots extend their mops beyond their edges for better edge cleaning.

Vacuuming Performance

Carpets

Both did well, but MOVA’s stronger suction made a difference in deep cleaning. With two dogs (one short-haired, one long-haired), my carpets need serious power, and MOVA handled it better.

Hardwood & Tile

Both left my floors noticeably cleaner, especially with light-colored dog hair on dark wood. However, MOVA performed better with heavier dirt, likely due to its higher suction.

Mopping Performance

Both robots prevented wet mops from touching carpets.

  • Narwal: Automatically raises mop pads by 12mm when transitioning onto carpets.
  • MOVA: Offers either 10.5mm mop lifting or full mop removal at the base.

Floor-specific mopping adjustments:

  • Narwal: Adjusts pressure (7N for wood floors, 12N for tile).
  • MOVA: Adjusts moisture levels based on floor type.

Overall Cleaning Performance

  • MOVA: Completed an entire clean in 3h 36m, washing its mop 11 times and emptying its dustbin 4 times.
  • Narwal: Stopped cleaning after 3h 26m due to an error. On another night, it stopped mid-task due to a “roller brush tangled” error after getting stuck in rug tassels.
  • Navigation: MOVA worked perfectly the first time, while Narwal required lifting dining chairs and occasional resets.

Vacuum Noise Levels

Both were reasonable, with adjustable suction/noise levels in their apps.

App Experience

  • MOVA: More intuitive mapping, allowed fine-tuning of carpet zones.
  • Narwal: Struggled with room splitting, which could be frustrating if you need precise control.
  • Both: Offer automatic updates, multiple floor maps, and customizable cleaning modes.

Final Thoughts

Both are strong competitors, but for my home, MOVA came out on top. It mapped better, had stronger suction, handled heavy dirt better, and cleaned my entire floor without errors. While Narwal has a fantastic anti-tangle brush and solid mopping, its navigation and app limitations were noticeable downsides.

If you want a hassle-free, powerful cleaning experience, MOVA P50 Pro Ultra is my pick.
